Together with composer Piet Swerts and clarinet soloist Eddy Vanoosthuyse, Rik Ghesquière developed a beautiful project in cooperation with the Royal Ballet of Flanders.
‘Moeder zonder meer’ of ‘Simply a Mother’ is quite unique. Luc Vanhauwaert wrote a fifteen page poem, an ode to poets and writers at both sides of the war fronts. It is also an ode to all those waiting for them at home: mothers, sisters, lovers. From The Great War to all subsequent wars. Composer Piet Swerts composed a score to along with the poem. It was brought by the Soloists of the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Rik Ghesquière, with the composer at the piano. Expressing emotions beyond the words and the music the dancers of the Royal Ballet of Flanders performed a choreography created by Altea Nuñez and Ricardo Amarante.
‘Moeder zonder meer’ is a work for clarinet solo and ensemble and was commissioned by top clarinetist Eddy Vanoosthuyse for the fourth European Clarinet Festival in Ghent.”
